From the Editor’s Desk
Rewind a couple of years and it felt that Life had ‘two states’: the things you do that’s called ‘work’ & the rest of the time you could do what you wanted, and that was called ‘play’. And the twain shall never meet! The two were separate buckets where one waited for the weekends to roll in to make up for the weekdays!
Don’t get me wrong - I liked my work enough to keep me going…and how much are you supposed to like what you do anyway? Well, quite a lot I guess. Decent money, prestige, combined with comparatively safe and prosperous career is a dangerously tempting mix. Even if something is amiss, it is not easy to let go.
But the urge to do more, to do something of your own, the opportunity & the fun of starting up is an equally potent mix. So yes, jump we did, the leap of faith…the ‘Udaan’ moment! The past 30 months have been a roller-coaster, crazy and monetarily poor. And we won’t have it any other way! Have we completely figured this out? No, not yet. Would we want to trade this with the earlier profile? Hell NO!
Are you one of those lucky people who know early on what they want to do? That’s great. If not, it is never too late to take the plunge. The test of whether you love what you do is whether you'd do it even if you weren't paid for it. How many people would do their current work if they had to do it for free? I think it's hard to find work you love; it must be, if so few do.
Udaan is for all those people who've never considered going out on their own and becoming an entrepreneur. Maybe they don't think they're cut out for it. Maybe they don't think they have the time, money, or conviction to see it through. Maybe they're just afraid of putting themselves on the line.
To do great work, you need to feel that you're making a difference. That you're putting a meaningful dent in the universe! That you're part of something important. You don't have forever. This is your life's work. Shake things up a bit. Build your legacy. If you're going to do something, do something that matters. "Do what you love." Surely that shouldn’t be too complicated! Unfetter yourself!
