To give without expectation and for the benefit of others is a feeling which can’t be compared to any other. Charity is one thing which warms the heart whenever you help someone less privileged than yourself. However, it’s not always possible to remember to be charitable. What if there is a platform that helps you donate towards the causes you care about, while you are shopping on your favourite e-commerce websites? In this piece, we will look at Charitism, an affiliate marketing based platform partnered with e-commerce aggregators for social fundraising. Charitism claims to be “India’s first free fundraising.”
Charitism: What is it?
In essence, Charitism donates a part of your online shopping to charity. Charitism was founded on 12th October 2018 by founding members Sudhanshu Sharma and Ranjan Jeet Sharma. These two are young, energetic and intelligent students who are passionate for contributing towards a better tomorrow. Charitism holds the belief that charity is the most suppressed desire of the human heart. They also ensure that they are working towards a sense of contribution and eventual gratification.
Charitism envisions to “make the world a better place to live for everyone.” In addition to this, their vision also aims to “give each person the opportunity to help the other while sustaining on his own.”
Charitism is essentially looking to revolutionize the social fundraising process by blending it with online affiliate marketing. Their mission is to raise a substantial amount of funds with the aid of general online shoppers to contribute towards listed charities and campaigns.
Their visions and missions combined with a passionate drive to do good, helped them gain entry to the Spring Cohort 2019 program of the seed accelerator, India Accelerator. This startup accelerator program will help Charitism boost their operations and scale at a very rapid pace. Inclusion as one of the 8 startups accepted into this program entitles Charitism to ₹ 20-25 lakh in cash, business services, incubation space and highly-focused mentoring to scale operations at an accelerated pace.
How Does it Work?
Essentially, Charitism is aiming to deploy affiliate marketing in order to raise funds. Affiliate marketing means that external websites are paid commissions to drive traffic or generate sales for an online retailer.
The working model for Charitism goes as follows:
- The user selects from a list of online shopping stores eg. Bigbasket, Flipkart, etc.
- Voting for a charity to donate from enlisted campaigns.
- User shops for favourite products like any other online shopping procedure.
- Charitism is rewarded with a commission every time users make a purchase with the help of the cookies installed in the user’s system, every time a product is checked out of the user’s cart within 24 hours of installation.
- The rewarded commissions are contributed to charities on a monthly basis according to the vote ratio. Vote ratio is basically the votes for a particular charity divided by total votes.
Charitism has thus, combined the business elements of affiliate marketing and the technology of e-commerce to help people at the grass root levels. It’s a step in the right direction to use modern tools in order to overcome the problems of the past.
